Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Umpire Score collects, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it. It is written from what the app actually does.
The short version. Scoring works entirely on your device and needs no account. Umpire Score contains no analytics, no advertising, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. The only personal data we hold is what is needed to run the optional Go Live broadcasting and Follow live features, and you can delete all of it from inside the app.
Who we are
Umpire Score is published by Richard Hope, an independent developer based in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the personal data described here. For anything in this policy, including a request to see or delete your data, email support@digitalhope.co.uk.
What stays on your device
- Matches and settings. Live matches, saved matches, scorecards, rules and preferences are stored in the app's private storage on your iPhone or iPad. They are not sent to us. Deleting the app deletes them.
- PDF scorecards and summaries are generated on the device and go only where you choose to share them.
- AI match reports are written on the device by Apple Intelligence. The match data used to write them does not leave your device.
- Lock Screen Live Activity. If you turn it on, the current score is shown on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, where anyone who can see your device can see it.
The account (Sign in with Apple)
You only need an account for Go Live broadcasting and Follow live. Signing in uses Sign in with Apple. Apple sends us a unique identifier, the name you agree to share, and either your email address or an Apple private relay address, depending on what you choose. We store these with Firebase Authentication, and your display name is stored alongside your broadcasts so spectators can see who is scoring. We do not use your email address for marketing.
Go Live broadcasting
When you tap Go Live, the match is uploaded so people with its code can follow it: the team names, venue, format and rules, any player names you have entered, every ball recorded, and a running summary. A six-character share code is created; anyone who has the code can read that match, and only that match. You can stop a broadcast at any time, and deleting the match or your account removes it. Player names are information about other people. If you score junior cricket, consider using first names or initials, and follow your club's policy.
Follow live
When you enter a share code, a record links your account to that match so the app can show it in your followed list and receive its updates. The person broadcasting cannot see who is following.
Subscriptions
Umpire Pro is sold through Apple's App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your card details. The app reads your App Store purchase records to confirm your subscription is active, and nothing about the purchase is stored on our servers.
Microphone and speech recognition
Voice scoring is not enabled in the current version, and the app does not access the microphone. If a future version enables it, the app will ask for microphone and speech-recognition permission at that time and this policy will be updated first.
What we do not collect
No analytics, no crash-reporting SDK, no advertising, no advertising identifier, no location, no contacts, no photos, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. The app does not build a profile of you.
Who else processes your data
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, the App Store and subscriptions under its own privacy policy.
- Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, part of Google Cloud) hosts the account and broadcast data described above on our behalf. Google acts as our processor under its data processing terms and does not use this data for its own purposes.
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Why we are allowed to hold it
Under UK data protection law, we process account and broadcast data because it is necessary to provide the features you asked for (performance of a contract), and we keep minimal security records under our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe from abuse.
How long it is kept
Broadcast data is kept until you delete the match or your account. Account data is kept while you have an account. Settings → Account → Delete account inside the app permanently deletes your cloud matches, share codes, follow grants and your sign-in. You can also email us and we will do it for you within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, have it corrected, have it deleted, or object to how it is used, by emailing support@digitalhope.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Data leaving the UK
Firebase may store and process data in data centres outside the UK, including in the European Union and the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by Google's data processing terms and the UK's approved safeguards.
Children
Umpire Score is made for the adults who run and follow cricket matches: umpires, scorers, coaches and parents. It is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly hold accounts for them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Keeping it safe
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Firebase security rules restrict every broadcast so it can be written only by the person who created it and read only by them, by people who hold its share code, and by followers.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, where the change affects data we already hold, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
